I had the enormous privilege and honor of serving in the Department of the Navy during my year as a White House Fellow (2023-2024). 

As a special assistant (GS14) to the 78th Secretary of the Navy, I supported the Science, Technology, Education, and Force Resilience portfolio and learned about the role of science in national security. I worked on the Michigan Maritime Initiative the Education for Seapower Advisory Board, the Navy Education Board, the Navy Science & Technology Board, the Navy Science & Technology Strategy, and the National Call to Maritime Service. 

The White House Fellowship is a nonpartisan program that fosters and strengthens leaders for the betterment of our communities and nation.

New Voices aims to expand the diversity of expertise engaged in the work of the National Academies while developing a network of U.S. leaders to address national and global challenges. During their two-year term of service, the new members will engage in the advisory and convening work of the National Academies, develop their own interdisciplinary projects, and add to the building of a robust network of emerging STEM leaders across the U.S. and around the world.

The Vision for American Science & Technology (VAST) will chart the way for the U.S. science & technology (S&T) enterprise to support America’s global leadership. Drawing from the collective insights and experiences of an unprecedented array of leaders in modern history, VAST will empower U.S. decisionmakers with a roadmap to ensure the American S&T enterprise remains the vanguard on an increasingly competitive world stage.
